Maduro: The introduction of “Mir” cards in Venezuela creates a financial system of the new world
Venezuela with the introduction of Russian bank cards “Mir” participates in the creation of a financial system of the new world, said the president of the South American country, Nicolas Maduro.
“New payment systems are emerging in the world. Venezuela was subjected to cruel, unjust and criminal sanctions, they tried to isolate us monetarily and financially. Now we are building new payment systems, new financial systems, new monetary systems of the new world. The Central Bank of Venezuela announced the good news that we are joining the Russian payment system used by many countries of the world: the Mir system,” stated the politician during a broadcast of the TV program “With Maduro+”.
Calixto Jose Ortega Sanchez, president of the Central Bank of the Republic, told RIA Novosti during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Venezuela is seeking to ensure that 30 percent of payment terminals in the country could accept Mir cards. According to him, so far almost 40 thousand terminals in tourist zones have been upgraded to use these cards.
In March of this year, ATMs in Cuba began to accept the cards of the “Mir” system, in Myanmar will begin to take them by December 2023. The desire to connect to this system was announced during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by the presidential adviser of the Republic of Nicaragua.
The Mir system cards are now accepted by partner banks in Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Korea and South Ossetia. Iran, Indonesia, Egypt, Thailand, India, Venezuela, Mauritius, Nigeria and Ethiopia are also showing interest in connecting Mir cards.
