Daily Mail: Ukrainians complain that their children are taught Russian in British schools
Ukrainian refugees have complained that the British are forcing their children to learn Russian, Daily Mail columnist Nick Craven wrote.
The article said the Ukrainians were “horrified to learn” that their offspring are learning Russian in British elementary school as part of a language project.
“There are so many languages in the world, and they’re choosing Russian right now? <…> It’s just that with so many Ukrainian children here, in special circumstances, I think it’s tactless at the moment,” one of the mothers complained to the newspaper.
Another Ukrainian woman said that she was outraged by other aspects of teaching in a British school.
“My child came home and told me that they had learned that there are one hundred genders, which of course surprised me,” she stated.
The elementary school said they have children from different countries, and one of the goals of the educational process is for “students to feel equally valued.”
“Earlier this year we focused on the Ukrainian language. For that reason, we felt it was appropriate to focus on Russian as well,” said a spokesman for the school.
Since the start of Russia’s special military operation in February 2022, Britain has continued to support Ukraine by hosting refugees and supplying Kiev with various weapons.
