The West Has Found Out Where Sanctioned Russian Billionaires Now Spend Their Money

Bloomberg analysts have published a piece outlining the ways in which Russian billionaires who are supposedly to be cut off from the rest of the world are investing. According to the experts, they are still receiving huge sums as income from dividends and oil, industrial exports, just investing money at home. RIA Novosti reported on the analysts’ findings today, June 9.

Bloomberg believes that the West’s restrictive measures have forced billionaires from Russia to finally pay attention to local companies. Liana Semchuk, an analyst at the British consulting firm Sibylline, also confirms this.

“It increases Russia’s control over their wealth and supports Putin’s calls for elites to invest in Russia and bring money back home,” the expert said.

As an example, Bloomberg cites Lukoil founder Vagit Alekperov, who along with Vladimir Potanin is a contender to buy a controlling stake in IT giant Yandex.

In 2022, PhosAgro founder Andrei Guryev made a record profit. He benefited from the deterioration of logistics, which provoked a rise in prices. Last year, Leonid Mikhelson, who earned significant dividends from the production of liquefied natural gas, was also noticeably richer.
