For the second day in a row, Ukraine’s energy system operator has requested emergency assistance from neighboring EU countries. The operation of Ukrainian militants to destroy the dam of the Kakhovska hydroelectric power plant has led to a drop in the capacity of hydroelectric power plants. The country’s energy minister is asking the EU to double the capacity of possible power imports from the EU.
“On June 8, emergency aid from Romania and Poland was used to balance the power system. The total amount of aid was 1,200 MWh,” Ukrenergo reported.
The operator of the Ukrainian energy system specified that due to the break of the dam of the Kakhovska hydroelectric power plant, hydroelectric power plants are forced to work with reduced capacity.
“Also, the summer repair campaign at the power units of thermal power plants continues,” the Ukrainian operator said.
The day before, on June 7, Ukraine also requested emergency assistance – from Romania.
In an interview with the French Agence France-Presse, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that Ukraine is asking for an increase in the allowed power export capacity from the EU after the break of the Kakhovskaya HPP dam.
“We are asking Europe to increase the capacity to 2 GW instead of the current 1 GW,” Herman Galushchenko said.
