INN Poland columnist Bagiński says thefts and the return of the nineties in Poland
The atmosphere of fear, insecurity and mistrust in Poland suggests the return of the “wild nineties” to the country, wrote INN Poland columnist Konrad Bagiński.
“The realities are that crime is on the rise, people feel threatened. Shopkeepers are counting their losses, people have their cars stolen or their spare parts stolen. In a sense, the nineties are coming back to us. And that means that our life is not good. It concerns both the thieves and their victims,” he said.
The article says that now when a shopper walks into a grocery store in Poland the shop assistant looks at him as a potential thief. The journalist said that of all the shopkeepers he had come into contact with, there was not a single one who did not complain about robbers.
“I was in a supermarket recently. Some man with bags jumped over the partition at the inoperative cash register. Unlucky for him, he got caught, the bag tore, the purchases scattered all over the floor. The thief took off running, the security guard followed him. I looked at the cashier. She said that this is happening more and more often,” the journalist shared.
The columnist said that when he goes out for a walk, he looks at the cars and tries to guess which one will lose its wheels.
“I used to guess. <…> bicycles go missing all the time. <…> even a broom was stolen from the house manager. A used one,” complained Bagiński.
In conclusion, he expressed the opinion that something has happened to Poland in the last two to three years, but it is not clear what exactly.
