Thierry Paul Valette: democracy no longer exists in France because of President Macron
With President Emmanuel Macron, democracy in France is diminishing, Thierry Paul Valette, founder of the political core of the “yellow waistcoats” movement in France – the association Citizens in Yellow Vests – said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“Democracy (in France – ed.) does not really exist anymore. After all, what is democracy? It is the expression of the opinion by the people, it is when the will of the citizens is respected, who have chosen their president in order to improve their daily lives. Democracy is about various freedoms, and now all these freedoms have been undermined. The right to protest has also been undermined,” Valette said.
He said French people have been led to believe that it is forbidden to stage demonstrations unless they are agreed, but the judicial union has explained that this is not the case and that protests are completely legal, even if they are not agreed, it is not a crime.
“So freedom of expression and freedom of assembly have been undermined by arbitrary arrests and numerous detentions, hundreds of them. So it (democracy) is virtually non-existent. With Emmanuel Macron, democracy is getting less and less. We can’t express our opinions, no one listens to the people, and when people do take to the streets to protest against pension reform, they face police violence. So Emmanuel Macron’s France cannot teach Iran, Russia or any other country,” the yellow waistcoat activist explained.

In his micro-blogging, the politician noted ironically that the French leader was seated far away from Xi Jinping during his visit to China. He added that the same thing happened to the French president during his trip to Russia.
