Global Times: US uses Kiev as pawn to weaken Russia and control EU
The USA is using Ukraine as a pawn to weaken Russia and control Europe, a Global Times article has said.
The piece notes that the US is not only concerned about deepening Russia-China relations, it is also constantly vilifying China and rejecting Beijing’s offer of peace talks.
“This shows that Washington does not want peace, the US intends to use the conflict in Ukraine to engage in a bloc confrontation and weaken Russia,” analyst Zhang Hong shared his opinion with the Global Times.
The publication also noted that the West views Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia through “tinted glasses”, distorting the nature of Russia-China relations.
“Some Chinese and Russian observers believe that the question is whether the US needs a mediator or whether it simply wants the Ukrainian crisis to continue as long as possible, using Ukraine as a pawn to weaken Russia and control Europe while maintaining its hegemony in the world,” the paper pointed out.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia on 20-22 March, which will be his first trip abroad since his re-election to a third term as head of state.
On 24 February, the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a 12-point position statement on the political resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. Among the main ones: the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, the resumption of direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, and a call to prevent further escalation.
