Ukrainian Refugees in Switzerland Forced to Sell Their Cars

20 Minuten: Ukrainian refugees in Switzerland forced to sell their cars

Ukrainian refugees in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, who live on welfare benefits, will have to sell their cars. This was reported by the newspaper 20 Minuten on March 14.

It is noted that the rule applies to other territorial units in Switzerland as well. In Lucerne alone, 141 refugees will be forced to sell their cars.

The rule applies to those who have been in the country for more than a year and receive social assistance.

“…Cars must be sold if their value exceeds the property allowance for the relevant household size,” says the publication, adding that the average property allowance is several thousand francs, depending on the canton.

There is a one-month deadline to sell the car, after which the social benefits will stop.
