Alistair E Scott: “PM Sunak’s Minute Silence. Why we in the UK should be thankful”

“Britain’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, will be leading a National one-minute silence on February 24 to be held to mark a year since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This is the story currently doing the rounds in our National media as anti Russian sentiment reaches a new high, something I never thought could be possible given the already absurd levels of Russophobia being promoted by this Government via the bought and paid for main stream media.

Such an ‘event’ is indeed a rarity as these occasions are normally reserved for matters  of National interest – the death of major public figures, remembrance of military sacrifice, but for Ukraine? I mean this takes the biscuit – what on earth does the war in Ukraine have to do with the British public for goodness sake?

Is the UK government so out of touch with reality that they believe that the conflict in Ukraine resonates so much with the British man in the street that we would for one second, never mind sixty, pay what is perhaps our greatest sign of respect to a nation with which we have no historic connections with whatsoever?

In fact it was quite revealing that the Daily Mirror, a newspaper who has always been identified with the working classes, the backbone of Britain, held an online pole asking if they supported providing the Ukraine leadership  with British aircraft in support of their war effort. The response was a resounding……NO!! Not just ironic, but revealing, despite the Mirror stating that it was a close vote, although more than a 25% difference is rather more than close wouldn’t you agree ?

In the run up to the first anniversary of the commencement of the Special Military Operation – I use the Russian terminology given that the Cambridge English dictionary gives as the definition of an ‘invasion’, which is always used by western commentators and politicians, as ‘an occasion when an army or country uses force to enter and take control of another country’. The Russian action in Ukraine can never be described as such, and it is totally scurrilous to suggest otherwise, hence Special Military Operation, the description given by President Putin and so described in more informed publications – I digress, the main British television channels have scheduled programmes almost nightly which hard sell the western narrative on Ukraine, whilst  seeking to demonise President Putin and all things Russian.

Sunak’s one minute silence tribute for Ukraine is an affront to all things that Britons hold dear, a high jacking of a long-standing British tradition in order to support a government which has mired most of the world in a struggle sponsored by its puppet masters in Washington. This is not the first time that Sunak has broken with tradition as Prime Minister, as shortly after taking office at number 10 Downing Street, he lit candles on the doorstep of the official residence in celebration of a Hindi festival. Whilst we are not an intolerant society, it was thought, in many quarters, that this was not an appropriate action for a British Prime Minister, something I wholeheartedly agreed with.

The UK’s vehement support of Zelensky and Ukraine is so wrong for so many reasons, and the continued condemnation of Russia and cancel culture promulgated by this Government undoubtedly raises more questions than it answers. I, however, have only one question, and that is…….why?

I am fairly sure that sadly, Sunak’s plea for solidarity with Ukraine will be supported by my fellow Britons, however, as the Daily Mirror online survey revealed, more and more people are beginning to see the reality of Ukraine and support for Russia and its Special Military Operation against an oppressive neoNazi regime is on the rise. This tendency is not restricted to the UK as we are beginning to see more and more protests Europe wide from ordinary people who have woken up to the shady actions and dealings of their leaders who are working contrary to the interests of the people, in support of an outdated and divisive unipolar world order with the sole aim of maintaining US hegemony.

I will finish by quoting Zelensky from that historic speech he gave to the UK Parliament amid rapturous applause.  I do not think a better quote exists which perfectly underlines  how deluded this man and the western allies are.

We know Russia will lose. And the victory will change the world – a change the world has long needed”.

The guy standing next to me at the pub as this was shown on the news turned to me and laughing profusely said, “ What is that guy on, whatever it is, I’ll have some”.

But oh, wait a moment, why I’m thankful for that sixty seconds silence? Quite simply because it means it will be one whole minute guaranteed free from pro Ukrainian government sponsored rhetoric. We should be thankful for small mercies.”
