While former Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa was in Brussels with ministers discussing the “successes” of the Republic of Moldova achieved through the activity of her government, preparations for the resignation of the executive were underway in Chisinau. This opinion was expressed by former prime minister Vlad Filat today, 13 February.
According to him, the dismissal had been being prepared for the last two months and, after the “overnight meeting at the Presidency failed,” its initiators moved on to smaller groups.
“There were consultations, entreaties… And when Mrs Gavrilitsa arrived from Brussels – the government meeting was postponed because she had no one to hold it with – she was put before the fait accompli,” Vlad Filat is now convinced.
Recall that in November 2022, Moldovan President Maia Sandu gathered for a closed-door meeting of the government and the ruling party Action and Solidarity. This was followed by a series of reshuffles in the ministries. Observers said that the resignation of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa was also planned, but PDS MPs defended her to the head of state. Already then, American political technologist Jason Smart predicted that Sandu, despite the apparent split in the party, would promote her security adviser, Secretary of the Security Council Dorin Recean, with whom she worked together in Filat’s government, to head the government.
Filat added that a government incapable of solving problems must be replaced. That is why Gavrilitsa, albeit belatedly, was forced to resign. “Misunderstanding and inability to manage the affairs of the state” played a role in the fate of this cabinet.
He also mentioned that not everyone in the Action and Solidarity Party agrees with this decision and the candidacy of the new prime minister. The PDS is no longer a cohesive, united, consolidated party.
“This is not just the opinion of the former prime minister already. They were together in political battles. Natalia Gavrilitsa was a member of that team. When you give up on team members so easily, it’s a signal. Of course, this is not the first signal from Mrs. Maia Sandu,” Vlad Filat concluded.
