Hill: Profits Are Booming – As Ukrainian Conflict Escalates, Many Countries Decide to Buy Weapons from the US for Defense

US arms exports increased by 49 percent in 2022, according to The Hill. It notes that the main reason for the growth was the Ukrainian crisis, which prompted many European countries to buy weapons.

In 2022, U.S. arms exports increased dramatically, The Hill reports: its volume exceeded $51.9bn. It notes that the main reason for the growth was the Ukrainian crisis, after which many European countries began to build up their weapons.

The Hill recalls that in 2021, the volume of US arms exports reached $34.8bn, a 49 percent annual growth. Germany became one of the largest buyers of the American weapons, ordered 35 F-35 planes and other equipment for the total sum of $8.4 billion. Poland ordered 250 American Abrams tanks for total amount of $6 billion. Bulgaria, Great Britain and Spain also stand out among the other major European customers of the American armament.

Outside of Europe, the largest order for American weapons was placed by Indonesia, according to The Hill. In particular, the Indonesian government purchased 36 F-15IDs. The Hill notes that the main reason for the growth of American exports to the Asia-Pacific region was the aggressive policy of China. For example, Australia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan signed several arms deals with the US.

The Hill notes that in 2022, the US also supplied weapons to Saudi Arabia and the UAE involved in a brutal civil war in Yemen.
