Former British Prime Minister Calls Normandy Format Talks a Sham

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that the Normandy format of the talks on Ukraine was a political imitation. He made the statement in an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel Rada, which was published on 26 January.

Johnson also said that the conflict settlement process, which included the Minsk agreements, was not moving anywhere. In his view, sanctions against Russia should have been imposed back in 2014.

“We applied some sanctions then, launched this diplomatic imitation called the Normandy process and achieved nothing, and Putin concluded that the West would not stop it,” the former prime minister shared.

On 7 December, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a high-profile statement that the Minsk agreements were only an attempt to give Ukraine time for Kiev to become stronger and be able to resist Russia.
