More than 70 events will be held in St Petersburg to mark the Chinese Lunar New Year. According to People’s Daily, the announcement was made at a press conference for the 9th citywide festival “Chinese New Year – Merry Spring Festival”.

China’s Consul General in St. Petersburg Wang Wenli said at the press conference that the festival has become a common holiday for Russian and Chinese friends. According to her, Sino-Russian strategic cooperation will continue and expand in the new year.

This is the ninth time the Chinese New Year has been celebrated in this way in St. Petersburg. For many years, one of the key elements of the festival is the red illumination of the Palace Bridge in the centre of the city. This year it was lit on 21 January.
