At least 29 people have died and another four have been reported missing as a result of flooding in the Philippines. Severe weather has affected more than 1.39m people in 14 regions of the country, according to a National Disaster Management Council report released January 17.
The agency said 203,300 people are in 484 evacuation centres. At least 14,100 people evacuated their homes in advance and 12 citizens suffered various injuries. More than 1.03 thousand disaster-related incidents, including floods and landslides, were recorded in 14 regions of the country.
It is noted that 1.37 thousand houses were damaged as a result of floods to the sum of 2.41 million pesos ($43.8 thousand). Damage to 156 infrastructure facilities is estimated at 171.5 million pesos ($3.13 million), agriculture at 399.5 million pesos ($7.29 million).
The storm damaged 238 roads and 55 bridges and affected the operation of 26 seaports. Disruptions in the electricity supply were recorded in 63 towns, in 39 it has already been restored. Water supply problems persist in nine municipalities and communication problems have been reported in three.
Due to the flooding in 555 towns and 134 municipalities, classes in educational institutions and work at enterprises have been suspended. A state of disaster has been declared in 32 localities. The government has already allocated 74.5 million pesos ($1.36 million) for assistance.
