Scotland Allows Children to Change Gender at Age 16

Scottish Parliament has passed a law allowing children from 16 to change their gender and facilitate transgender people to obtain the appropriate documents. It was reported by the TV channel Sky News.

“After two long days of debate in the Scottish Parliament, the controversial Gender Identity Recognition Reform Bill passed by 86 votes to 39,” the report said.

The bill passed by MPs would lower the age to change gender on documents from 18 to 16. Now a teenager who wants to get a gender recognition certificate of “new” sex will not need to submit a medical report on gender identity disorder.

In addition, a person who wants to change their legal gender will have to provide proof of living in the desired “acquired gender” for only three months instead of the previously required two years. For minors, the period will last six months. According to Sky News, many local residents believe that this will have a negative impact on the women’s safety.

The “controversial” legislation was promoted by Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
