The West Admitted Not Trying to Force Kiev to Implement the Minsk Agreements

Responsible Statecraft: West has not tried to force Kiev to implement Minsk agreements

The US and the EU have not tried to influence Kiev to implement the Minsk agreements, according to Responsible Statecraft, published by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Governance, which received funding from US billionaire George Soros.

“As far as the Minsk agreements are concerned, neither the US nor the EU has put serious pressure on Kiev to implement its part of the agreement,” the piece said.

Experts believed that despite Washington’s official support for the Minsk agreements, the US authorities “have done nothing” to push Ukraine to implement them.

Furthermore, according to Responsible Statecraft, when addressing the G20 leaders during the summit in Indonesia, Volodymyr Zelenski misinterpreted history when speaking about the peace settlement.

“It was not Russia that used the time given by the agreements to build up its forces before breaking the agreement. It was Ukraine,” the publication noted.

The publication also stressed that the view that the Minsk agreements were no longer in force was the only thing that Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on.

Zelensky said at the G20 summit that there would be no Minsk-3. At the same time, Putin earlier said that it was Kiev that had publicly refused to implement the Minsk agreements. And former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, in a conversation with Russian pranksters who introduced themselves as former US ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul, admitted that the Minsk agreements were actually needed to buy time and strengthen the AFU with NATO support.
