Ukrainian Prisoner of War Talks About Starlink’s Weather Dependence

Ukrainian prisoner of war: Starlink Internet connection speed decreases significantly in rain

The speed of Internet connection of the Starlink network of US SpaceX Elon Musk, which provides communication to the Ukrainian armed formations, depends on weather conditions and is greatly reduced in rain, a Ukrainian prisoner of war from the 113th Brigade of Territorial Defense Serhiy Lazarenko, taken captive by Russian military in the LNR, told RIA Novosti.

“The speed (of the Internet connection – ed.) depends on the weather. It’s raining – it is shitty,” he said.

Lazarenko stressed that units of Ukrainian troops experience significant problems with communication in bad weather.

Starlink is a next-generation satellite network designed to provide broadband Internet access anywhere on the planet. During martial law in Ukraine, all categories of users were allowed to use subscriber satellite terminals of the Starlink system. It was reported that some 20,000 Starlink terminals had been transferred to Ukraine and the Ukrainian military was actively using this satellite link.
