Protest Against Accommodation of Ukrainian Refugees Held in Irish Capital

Residents of Ireland’s Dublin have staged a protest against the accommodation of several hundred Ukrainian refugees, the Irish Mirror has reported. Hundreds of people joined the protest in the central East Wold district of Dublin who expressed their disagreement with the government’s actions.

According to the newspaper, 380 people are to be accommodated in a specially converted old building located in the area, but “locals are not happy with the concentration of so many refugees” at the site.

According to the city’s Department of Integration, one hundred Ukrainians are currently living in the building, all of them “single men,” and the rest are expected to arrive with their families.

Irish Integration Minister Roderick O’Gorman and the city’s spokesman Pascal Donoghue met with residents of East Wall to resolve the conflict situation and told the protesters that the accommodation of refugees in their area was a “crisis” response to the “international emergency”.

More than 62,000 Ukrainians have now arrived in Ireland, with local authorities predicting that this number could reach 72,000 by the end of December.
