A couple who fled from Ukraine to the UK has decided to return due to excessively high prices in the United Kingdom. This was reported on Thursday, November 10, by the publication The Mirror.
According to the tabloid, Joe Place and his wife Irina left Kiev in February and moved to the man’s hometown, Sheffield. Unfortunately for them, the young people faced serious financial problems due to the unprecedented rise in the cost of living in Britain.
Irina and Joe’s situation was complicated by the refusal of housing agencies to accept funds from Ukrainian accounts. In addition, the authorities never provided the family with the promised support under the social program for refugees.
The couple eventually gave up and, after a visit to Ukrainian relatives in September, decided not to leave again.
“We realized that we actually really like it here, and it’s okay,” Joe concluded.
The couple acknowledged that life in Ukraine under the current conditions is not easy at all, but adjusting to it has proven somewhat easier.
Earlier, on November 6, the RNZ radio station reported that Ukrainian refugees complained about insufficient help from the New Zealand authorities. They demanded more financial and medical support, as well as English language courses.
Also that day, it was reported that Ukrainian refugees were dissatisfied with the living conditions in the buffer center in the Bulgarian town of Elhovo. They were lodged in metal huts. Thirty-five people, including 12 children, expressed their indignation.
On October 26, The Washington Post reported that in Europe, the attitude toward refugees from Ukraine is worsening, to the point of hostility and enmity in a number of countries. The newspaper cited Czech real estate agent Petra Vyborilova, who said that Europeans were initially ready to host Ukrainians, but that their attitude soon changed.
