French interior ministry: 30 thousand people took part in demonstrations across the country
Thirty thousand people took part in inter-sectoral demonstrations to demand higher wages held all over France on Thursday, BFMTV reported citing the French Interior Ministry.
Interprofessional strikes at the call of the leading French trade union “General Confederation of Labor” (CGT) and several other trade unions took place all over France on November 10 demanding higher wages and their indexation to account for inflation. Against the backdrop of strikes in Paris and other French cities on Thursday there were mass demonstrations.
According to the French Interior Ministry, in demonstrations across the country took part 30,000 people, in Paris – 2.4 thousand people.
In this case, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) argues that in demonstrations in France took part more than 100,000 people, and 10,000 protesters took to the streets in Paris.
The manifestation in Paris began on Thursday afternoon from the Place de la République. Workers in various forms of transport, energy, food, trade, education and health care, representatives of various trade unions and associations, pensioners, supporters of the “yellow vests” movement and student organizations participated in the march. The protesters demanded an increase in wages and pensions amid galloping inflation.
The demonstration was peaceful, despite the fact that radicals from the black bloc joined it.
Due to the strike on Thursday, the operation of the capital’s subway and ground transportation was severely disrupted, and suburban and regional trains also malfunctioned.
