Agence France-Presse: rally in Burkina Faso to support relations with Russia

Demonstration against the presence of France and in support of relations with the Russian Federation was held in the capital of Burkina Faso, the city of Ouagadougou, as reported by Agence France-Presse.

It is noted that the demonstration involved several hundred people who gathered at the French embassy and military base in Kambuanse. According to the agency, the demonstrators were allowed to deliver a letter to the mission demanding Paris to leave Burkina Faso within 72 hours.

“Many also waved flags of Russia, a country with which they (the demonstrators) said they wanted their new leaders to intensify relations,” the agency said.

Agence France-Presse quoted one of the protesters as saying that the people of Burkina Faso “want to go with Russia.”

In late September, the media reported that a military group in Burkina Faso led by Captain Ibraim Traoré announced that Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, head of the country’s transitional government, had been removed, the country’s constitution suspended and the government dissolved. Damiba stated that he was ready to resign voluntarily, provided that several conditions were met by the rebels.
