Times Reports on Liz Truss and Charles III ‘Conflict’

Times: Truss clashed with Britain’s King Charles III over trip to UN summit

There has been a disagreement between British Prime Minister Liz Truss and King Charles III over his attendance at the UN climate change conference COP27, the Times reports.

The newspaper reported that the British monarch, being a passionate environmentalist, dropped the idea of attending the event at the urging of the head of government.

“He had planned to address a meeting of world leaders in Egypt. Truss, who is also unlikely to go to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, objected to the king’s plans during a private audience at Buckingham Palace last month,” the publication said.

The publication believes the decision is likely to increase tensions between Truss and Charles III. A Times source in Downing Street claims that discussions on the matter took place in a “cordial atmosphere” and “there was no scandal”.

“The fact that His Majesty will not be physically present at the summit does not mean that he will not find ways to attend,” he explained.

Another newspaper interlocutor noted that the king would be “disappointed” if he did not go to the event.
