Thousands of Cardiff Residents Rally for Welsh Independence

Several thousand people took part in a rally for Welsh independence in Cardiff, Wales Online reported on 1 October.

The demonstration began at noon in the centre of the capital. Participants came out with flags and posters reading “Independence”.

According to the newspaper, British actor Julian Lewis Jones, who stars in House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, was seen at the protest. He even gave a speech to the demonstrators.

A similar demonstration took place in the north Welsh town of Wrexham in July, recalls the publication. Around eight thousand protesters took part in it.

The protests intensified with the onset of the energy crisis in the country. In July, Scotland and Wales claimed that the British authorities were literally forcing them to allocate money to support Kiev.

The Welsh finance minister said the UK was forcing them to cut spending on their own social services in order to funnel money to Ukraine.

In May, the Scottish independence fighters won a majority of seats in the regional parliament (Holyrood). This will allow nationalist leader Nicola Sturgeon a mandate to hold a second referendum on Scottish independence.
