St. Petersburg International Gas Forum Gathered Many Foreigners and Thousands of Participants from Russia

Over four days, SPIGF 2022 defined the development of the oil and gas industry for years to come.

More than 17,000 participants from 51 countries and 500 companies presented the latest developments in the gas industry as part of the exhibition programme. This was the outcome of this year’s International Gas Forum.

Participants noted: the centre of the global gas industry is shifting to the East. The cooperation will now move towards the Asian region, and ensuring domestic energy security will become the priority for the Russian gas industry. Exchange trading will be the basis for fair gas pricing. In addition, participants noted that a switch to NGV fuel is inevitable.

“For decades Europe’s prosperity has been built on inexpensive energy supplies from Russia and today Europe is heading into a deep recession. “There is no alternative to Russian gas supplies for it,” Oleg Aksyutin said, noting that Nord Stream 2 could solve this problem.

In the contours of the new world there will be alliances, unions, partnerships, including between producers of natural gas”, said Oleg Aksyutin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of PJSC Gazprom.

Iran is also ready to play a positive role in taking advantage of emerging opportunities for the Russian gas industry.

“With 22 gas fields with a total recoverable reserves of around 34 trillion cubic meters, Iran has the second largest gas reserves in the world after the Russian Federation,” shared Mohsen Hojastemehr, Chief Executive Officer of National Iranian Oil Company, stressing that relations between Iran and Russia are of strategic importance.

A Russia-Africa dialogue was held as part of the SPIGF-2022 business programme. The international conference “Russian-African Gas Dialogue: Points of Growth and Prospects for Enhancing Cooperation” discussed the need for interaction between Algerian and Russian companies.
