Reuters: Mobile Phone Service May Be Cut Off in Europe This Winter Due to Energy Crisis

European countries may cut off mobile communications this winter due to the energy crisis. This was reported by Reuters the other day, citing sources.

” Cellphones across Europe could be shut down this winter if energy restrictions or rationing affect parts of mobile networks across the region,” the report said.

According to the agency’s sources, some European companies, such as Nokia and Ericsson, are developing measures to mitigate potential power shortages as much as possible. However, according to the agency, countries in Europe, “accustomed to uninterrupted power supply for decades”, do not have enough back-up systems to help deal with a massive power outage.

“People in large parts of Europe, where the electricity supply is stable, are spoilt… Perhaps in the area of energy storage, there has been less investment than in some other countries,” said Lisa Belloulot, president of the French Federation of Telecommunications Operators.

According to her, it is now impossible to provide new uninterruptible power supplies to all cellular antennas in France.
