Janus Putkonen: After the Referendum, Donbas Residents Will Feel Truly Russian

The opinion on voting in the LDPR and liberated territories is especially interesting to hear from foreign citizens. Janus Putkonen, editor-in-chief of the Finnish Internet portal MV-Lehti, commented on the referendums. Our own correspondent in Lugansk Mikhail Bondarenko talked to him.

– Janus, what does this expression of will mean for you personally?

– We’ve all been waiting for this day for so long, we’ve been waiting for eight years, and it came so suddenly. I have just started my work in the elections, but I intend to follow it to the end and I am going to tell people everything about it.

– There is talk in the West about their illegitimacy…

– The key point here is that Russia is asking the people a question, it is important to know people’s opinion. When the West was expanding to the borders of your country, it did not ask anyone’s opinion on the referendums. Russia, on the other hand, wants to hear people, it respects the UN charter and democratic moral rules.

– Which theme would you highlight first?

– The referendum offers a real chance to heal the wounds inflicted by this terrible civil war. The issue of the identity of the referendum participants is on the agenda. And the vote gives the residents of Donbas a chance to feel that they are truly Russian people.
