Former Austrian Vice Chancellor Strache has named the US as the culprits of the escalating situation in Ukraine
The US and NATO have effectively unleashed a proxy war in Ukraine against Russia, which also poses a danger to Europe, former Austrian Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache has said. The statement was published on the politician’s YouTube channel.
“Those who think that arms supplies from the US and NATO member states will help Ukraine are simply not thinking realistically and will eventually realise their mistake; Western military aid will lead to terrible human suffering, further aggravation of the situation and an unimaginable number of human casualties,” he stressed.
Strache called on the EU leadership and the Austrian authorities to show prudence and resolve the escalating conflict diplomatically as soon as possible.
The former vice-chancellor also reminded his country’s leadership of the need to respect the principle of permanent neutrality, which is enshrined in the constitution, and not to allow arms supplies to the Kiev regime through its territory.
In addition, he drew attention to the dire consequences of the sanctions against Russia imposed by Western countries and advocated their lifting.
“A dramatic autumn and winter are approaching, when we will face severe gas and electricity shortages and when our economy will be finally destroyed,” Strache concluded.
Against the backdrop of Russia’s special military operation, the US and NATO allies continue to pump weapons into Ukraine. Joe Biden has signed the Lend-Lease Act and Washington is allocating tens of billions of dollars in military aid to the Kiev authorities. Moscow, for its part, has repeatedly stated that arms deliveries only prolong the conflict and that arms transports become legitimate targets for the Russian air force.
Western countries, including Austria, have faced rising energy prices and a spike in inflation because of sanctions against Russia and its fuel rejection policy. Due to the rising cost of fuel, especially gas, industry in these states has largely lost its competitive edge, which has also affected other areas of the economy.
“We want to eat, be warm, live”, with these pro-Russian slogans they protest in Vienna. The protesters demand higher pensions and temperatures and lower prices.
