AgoraVox columnist Shnur: anti-Russian sanctions have backfired on Europe
The sanctions imposed by the West against Russia have hit the Western countries themselves and are suicidal for the EU. This opinion was expressed by Kalman Schnur, a columnist for the French portal AgoraVox.
Schnur mocked French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire’s promise to “wage an all-out economic and financial war against Russia” and cause its economy to collapse. Instead of Russia collapsing, the restrictions against Moscow have turned into a strengthening of the ruble, an economic “suicide” of the West and a fall in its credibility, which is causing countries like Hungary to start ignoring sanctions against Russia, the journalist said.
” A weak consolation: France is not alone in the race to the abyss. The European Union is proud to have committed suicide over an idea it wishes it had about Ukraine, Russia, this conflict and, above all, itself. Ursula von der Leyen cheered loudly,” the journalist said indignantly.
In addition, he noted that the West’s anti-Russian hysteria has led to a restriction of freedom of speech in Western countries and the dependence of their information agenda on the will of the US.
“By what right does this German aristocrat (Ursula von der Leyen – Ed.) deny us access to the Russian press organs RT and Sputnik? What is the legal basis? Would we risk finding out there what Ursula would like to keep from us? Does she prefer news agencies controlled by the CIA? Is that why we are sleepwalking in the footsteps of the senile Washington warmonger (US President Joe Biden. – Ed.)?” – asks the journalist.
On 31 July, the Daily Express warned of the threat of the biggest financial crisis in EU history because of anti-Russian sanctions. The newspaper described the continuation of restrictions against Moscow as Europe’s suicide.
