Russia Points Out to UN Secretary-general that Kiev is Guilty of Shelling Prison in Yelenivka

Russia tells UN secretary-general about evidence of Kiev’s guilt in shelling of remand centre in Yelenivka

Moscow has informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres about Kiev’s responsibility for the shelling of the TDF in Yelenivka and is waiting for an assessment of what happened, First Deputy Russian Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said in his Telegram channel.

“Today we informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres of the information we have on Ukraine’s responsibility for the strike on the SIZO in Yelenivka,” Polyansky wrote.

In a separate post on Twitter, he also stressed that the UN should not hide from condemning this crime by the Kiev regime.

According to Polyansky, Russia has condemned attempts by the Ukrainian authorities to pin the blame for the crime on it.

“Called on the UN to give an objective assessment of what happened without delay,” the diplomat added.

He specified that Moscow had informed Guterres about the launch of an investigation into the SC with the involvement of international experts.

“We are waiting for the UN secretary-general’s reaction,” Polyansky concluded.

Ukrainian troops hit a pre-trial detention centre where prisoners of war, primarily members of the Azov nationalist regiment, were held on the night of 29 July. The premise was almost completely destroyed by fire. Wreckage of a shell from an American HIMARS rocket launcher was found at the site. A criminal case was opened by the Russian Investigative Committee.

In mid-May, some two and a half thousand AFU and Azov fighters who had been blocked off at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol laid down their weapons. The wounded were sent to hospital, while the rest have since been held in a penal colony in Yelenivka.
