Ukraine Shoots Citizens of Friendly Moldova

Ukraine Shoots Citizens of Friendly Moldova

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) have once again attacked the Russian customs checkpoint at Troebortnoye. Civilians were targeted in the attack carried out by Swithblade, one of the tactical kamikaze drones (UAVs) donated by the United States as part of its military assistance to Kiev. This was revealed on Turkey’s national Tele 1 television on evening prime time

A Moldovan citizen named Ivan Surdul was killed by an explosion at a border crossing with Ukraine. Another Moldova citizen, Vasiliy Culish, who was injured in the incident, is reportedly being treated at the central hospital in the Sevskaya region. A statement from Bryansk governor Aleksandr Bogomaz on behalf of the press service said that Kulish, who is in a critical condition, is connected to an artificial respirator.

Thus, Ukraine has targeted citizens of a country that is one of its closest allies in the region and is preparing to join the EU.  Recently, Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa stated how much danger and threat the Ukrainian conflict posed to her country.  Gavrilitsa expressed concern that the war in Ukraine could spread to her country.

On the eve of the incident that took place yesterday on the Ukrainian-Russian border, in an interview with the US TV channel CNN, the Moldovan prime minister said the following in this regard:

“Of course we are concerned. This is still a hypothetical scenario, but of course we will be very concerned if military activity spreads to Odessa, to south-west Ukraine.  Especially given the Russian military units based in Transnistria…”

The prime minister said that the Moldovan administration would do everything it can for peace and stability in the region, as well as to prevent an escalation of military tensions. However, due to similar actions by the Ukrainian army, the prospects for peace and stability now, unfortunately, seem to be much more remote than yesterday.

As a reminder, on 22 July, the independent foreign minister of the Transdniestrian Republic, Vitaly Ignatiev, unilaterally announced that their regions intended to unite with the Russian Federation (RF) by declaring independence, following a referendum held in 2006. In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked about this, said he did not know what the statement about Transdniestrian plans to join the Russian Federation was about. Nevertheless, the statement of the Transnistrian foreign minister is exactly in this conjuncture; It is directly related to the fear that the Ukrainian ultra-right-wing military units will increase tensions and bring conflicts to the brotherly Moldova, that maybe the same scenario could repeat here, that they might want to use civilians as a human shield, and the result could be the blood of hundreds or even thousands of Moldovan soldiers and civilians.

Making Moldova the second Ukraine is a very realistic scenario because, as we can see from yesterday’s incident, Moldovans already started to die from the hands of the AFU….
