More than 70% of Serbian citizens who took part in the survey are against sanctions against the Russian Federation. More than half of those polled (52%) were against joining the European Union, while 91% of the respondents were categorically against their country joining NATO. Such data of the survey of the independent organization “New Third Way” was published by the newspaper “Politika” on July 27.
According to the survey, 72% of the respondents were against the sanctions imposed against Russia, while 59% believe that the sanctions are more detrimental to the West than to Russia. 41% of citizens believe that the reason for the Russian special operation in Ukraine was NATO’s desire to expand to the east, another 16% of respondents indicated that the cause was the “denazification and demilitarization” of Ukraine. 59% of citizens blamed Western countries for the conflict.
Respondents spoke out against joining the European Union (52%) and NATO (91%).
Among world leaders, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban received the highest ratings, of the countries Russia, China and Hungary. French President Emmanuel Macron was in the middle of the list, while US President Joe Biden and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, like their countries, received the lowest scores.
The survey was supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) between 13 and 19 June and involved 1,285 participants.
