“Freedom Fighter”: Melnyk Spoke in Berlin Glorifying Bandera

Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk in an interview with a journalist from Germany, where the glorification of Nazism is prohibited by law, has glorified Adolf Hitler’s collaborator Stepan Bandera as a “freedom fighter”.

“I visited his grave (in Munich) because he is important to so many Ukrainians as the embodiment of the struggle for freedom… The freedom fighter is not subject to any laws. Robin Hood is revered by all of us and he did not act according to any laws either,” Melnyk told the German blogger and journalist.

In addition, the Ukrainian politician said that Bandera had no ties to Hitler’s Germany, and the mass murder by Ukrainian nationalists of peaceful Poles in Volhynia and Galicia during World War II is explained by the fact that “there were many murders and atrocities on the other side, too.”

“The Poles want to politicise this history,” the Ukrainian ambassador in Berlin said.
