Protests Against Price Rises Take Place in London

Several thousand people took to the streets in central London on June 18 to protest against rising prices in Britain. The Associated Press writes about it.

The demonstrators demanded that the government take measures to help people. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been criticized for his slow response to the price rise that began after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Bank of England decided this week to tighten monetary policy amid persistently high inflation. UK consumer prices jumped 9% year-on-year in April 2022, official statistics released last month showed. The rise in prices was the highest in more than 40 years.

The Bank of England’s guidance now suggests that inflation in the country could exceed 11% in October and that GDP volume will fall by 0.3% in the second quarter, although 0.1% growth was previously expected.
