Two Men Detained in St Petersburg for Hacking Into Accounts of ROC Clerics

A law enforcement source has said that two residents involved in hacking into the accounts of clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church in social networks in order to post publications on their behalf against the special military operation to protect the DNR and LNR, as well as discrediting the leadership of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church, were arrested today in St Petersburg.

It is also known that the criminals attempted to steal the clerics’ private data in order to further induce them to engage in criminal activities.

The source reported that the criminal activities were coordinated by from the territory of Ukraine, by the head of the local schismatic church. A resident of one of the regions of the Russian Federation, who is a representative of the so-called “catacomb church”, was also involved in its implementation.

It is known about those detained in St. Petersburg that one of them was a native of Kyiv and the other of Leningrad. Criminal cases were initiated against them both under Part 3, Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, “Illegal access to computer information”. The sanction under this article provides for up to five years in prison.
