BMW And the Entire Automotive Sector Will Stop Without Gas From Russia

German company executives continue to tell the media what consequences await Germany in the event of a Russian gas supply stoppage.

“Not only BMW, but the entire sector will stop,” Milan Nedeljkovic, a board member of the BMW automobile group, told Reuters when asked about the consequences of stopping Russian gas supplies. He added: “Our industry accounts for 37 percent of Germany’s gas consumption.”

BMW itself was getting 54 percent of its energy from gas in 2021.

According to a BMW board member, the group is exploring areas for new investments to reduce its dependence on gas. These include solar, geothermal and hydrogen generation.

Earlier, Martin Brudermüller, director of the German chemical concern BASF, told German media that naive moralists are ready to completely destroy the German economy.

“This could lead the German economy to the worst crisis since the end of World War II,” the BASF head stated. According to him, the imposition of an embargo on Russian energy imports would jeopardize the existence of many small and medium-sized companies. “Do we want to destroy our entire economy with our eyes open? What have we built up over the decades? I think such an experiment would be irresponsible,” Martin Brudermüller said.
