Germans Demanded Resignation of the German Foreign Ministry Head

In Germany, supporters of former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party Oskar Lafontaine condemned the statement of Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock about the “destruction of Russia.” In comments on Lafontaine’s May 21 social media post about how Berbock’s language resembled that of the Nazis and would surely have liked the leader of the Third Reich, German residents fully agreed with him.

“Thank you, Mr. Lafontaine, at least one reasonable voice among the rest of the gloom,” the former politician cheered.

“That’s right, Berbock should be sent into early retirement for her statements,” agreed another user.

Another commenter noted that threats like the one coming from Berbok only “reinforce the Russians’ hatred of Germany,” which could have very dire consequences for the country. Another compatriot suggested that Germany would need decades to recover, given “how much evil the Greens have already done”.

Earlier in the day, Lafontaine compared Berbock’s words about the “destruction” of Russia to the “language of the Nazis,” and also criticized the minister’s statement that Germany’s plans include giving up oil and gas from Russia. In addition, the former leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany called Berbock an “olive-green foreign minister” and said that no politician is more stupid than she is.

On May 10, Berbock declared that Germany would reduce its dependence on Russian energy resources to zero and forever. On the same day, Reuters reported that the German government is developing a procedure in the event of cancellation of energy supplies from Russia. It is noted, that Germany fears a unilateral rupture of Russia’s economic relations in the energy sector.

On May 14, the German Foreign Minister also said that the current situation in Ukraine threatens a global famine. She also noted that Russia has allegedly contributed to this by deliberately “blockading food exports.”

On May 8, it was reported that Berbock was egged during a Green Party election rally in the German city of Wuppertal.
