German Farmers’ Association says risk of meat shortage

Deputy Secretary General of the German Farmers’ Association Udo Hemmerling predicted meat shortages in the country in the coming months.

Hemmerling told Der Spiegel magazine about the problems with the possible availability of meat products.

The publication reports that statements about the growth of food prices in the country appear almost every day. Thus, according to the deputy secretary of the German Farmers’ Association, for a long time pork prices were quite low, resulting in a reduction of pork production in the country.

Now, however, prices have risen again, along with a strong rise in the price of feed. For these and other reasons, it is not profitable for farmers to keep many animals.

Of course, consumers can simply buy sausage instead of pork chops. But if it becomes known that pork chops are in short supply, and everyone quickly fills the freezer, the rush effect will occur again – and there will be even less goods,” Udo Hemmerling emphasized.
