Blinken apologized to Abu Dhabi crown prince over Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has apologized to the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi for the insufficient U.S. response to the Hussein attacks to gain Middle Eastern support on Ukraine, Axios reported, citing sources.

Earlier, the media, citing informed sources, reported that the Gulf countries believe that the U.S. should have reacted more forcefully to the ongoing missile attacks on their countries by Iranian-backed Hussein rebels in Yemen. Against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine, Washington, for its part, according to sources, believes that the “condemnation of Moscow” by the Middle Eastern monarchies is not articulated enough.

According to the sources, during the meeting with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayd in Morocco at the end of March, Blinken “acknowledged that the US took too long to react to the Hussein attack (in January, Yemeni rebels attacked Abu Dhabi, killing six people – ed.), and asked for forgiveness for it”.

The weekly noted that in this way Washington hoped to gain support from the countries of the region in the situation with Ukraine. A representative of the US Department of State refused to disclose details but did not deny the publication.

In early March, the UAE abstained from voting on the US and Albania’s resolution on the situation in Ukraine, as did China and India.
