Russian Seasons return to Belgium

The international cultural project “Russian Seasons” resumes its tour. The Choir of the St.Petersburg State Academic Capella, under the direction of People’s Artist of the USSR Vladislav Chernushenko, will perform for the audience from 2 to 5 September. The Russian Seasons festival was initiated by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The events will be supported by the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Brussels.

Russian Seasons is a unique project that opens up new opportunities for international dialogue and shows how culture acts as a true ambassador for peace. In 2017, Japan held 238 events in 100 cities with the participation of 29 cultural institutions. In 2018, there were 310 events in Italy, covering 74 cities and 87 participating institutions. In 2019, the global cultural project Russian Seasons took place in Germany. 473 events in 90 cities with the participation of 90 Russian groups which triumphantly presented Russian culture to millions. In total, the “Russian Seasons” has captivated more than 13 million viewers since the project’s inception.

In 2020, the festival was scheduled to take place in three countries: France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The official opening ceremony was held on January 16, 2020, at the famous Odeon Theater in Paris. In March 2020, the touring program had to be suspended due to restrictive measures. The festival was postponed until 2021.

“Russian Seasons returns after a forced hiatus due to the pandemic, and it is indeed a long-awaited event. Despite the fact that we have done everything possible so that the foreign audience can enjoy the best examples of Russian art on the Stay home with Russian Seasons Internet platform, meeting in real life will be the best gift for the people of Belgium. Traditionally we are extremely warmly welcomed here, and we are sure that this time the artists will also be able to captivate the audience,” Oksana Kosareva, Director of the Department for State Support of Art and Folk Art emphasized.

The new season of the Russian Seasons tour in Belgium will be opened by the St. Petersburg State Academic Capella. The concerts by the Choir, directed by maestro Vladislav Chernushenko, will take place from 2 to 5 September 2021. The program presented by the ensemble is worked out to the smallest detail and includes performances of Russian sacred music as well as works by composers G.V. Sviridov, S.V. Rachmaninoff, D.S. Bortnyansky, P.G. Chesnkov, A.A. Arkhangelsky, S. Mokranyats. The Capella had an enormous influence on the development of Russian musical culture and is the most important source of musical education in Russia.

The performance of sacred music is the most important part of the world’s musical culture. Most of the concerts will take place in the major Catholic cathedrals of Belgian cities.

On the opening night, September 2 – the company’s concert program will be hosted by the Saint Michael and Saint Gudule Cathedral in Brussels, September 3 – by Kortrijk Cathedral, September 4 –  by the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Ostend, and September 5 – by the Boverie Museum in the Boverie Park in Liège.

“The resumption of the tour is a sign that the world is beginning to recover and adapt to modern realities. I hope that despite the difficult conditions for traveling, we will be able to carry out all our plans. I am glad we have the opportunity to perform live abroad again,” said the director of the Russian Seasons, Alexei Lebedev.
