Quarantine mixed with carnival

It is difficult for the government to persuade the French to new restrictions

The establishment of a new quarantine regime in 16 conditions in France met with dull resistance from their residents. They believe that the government is only multiplying mistakes, having a clear strategy to combat the pandemic, which has entered the “third wave” in France. Alexey Tarkhanov, the Parisian correspondent of Kommersant, tells.

When French Prime Minister Jean Castex and Health Minister Olivier announced live on Friday that the country was overtaken by a “third wave” of the virus and new tough measures against the epidemic were introduced (including new tough measures against the epidemic)), the country prepared for the worst. During the first quarantine, announced a year ago, the French turned into “torn apart” families, hospitals and nursing homes turned into besieged fortresses, displacement was banned, all shops except food were closed.

Frightened residents of “dangerous” zones, especially Paris, fled, heading to those departments where the statistics of infections and occupied hospital beds does not look so scary. The stations were overcrowded, traffic jams lined up on the highways leading from the capital. The Parisians understood that they were unlikely to be welcomed with open arms in the provinces, but the fear of hanging in the capital again without the right to leave the house prevailed.

Taught by bitter experience, the French and French women hastened to make all the pending purchases during Friday, shave and get a haircut, dye, do styling and wait for the inevitable end in the morning.
To everyone’s amazement, the end did not come. With such fanfare, the announced quarantine is surprisingly mild. Last spring, during the day, it was possible to leave the house once and for one hour within a radius of a kilometer, and now this diameter has been increased to ten kilometers, and you can walk at least all day at the permitted curfew, that is, from six in the morning until seven in the evening. Precisely to seven, and not to six, because for the sake of bright evenings, the curfew was reduced.

Like a year ago, the population was asked to justify any appearance on the street with a certificate. Immediately posted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the network of samples of “leave” lived, however, only a day. The government is said to have been horrified by the two-page document that officials required the French to fill out before leaving their homes. It listed 15 options for the reaction and 3 options for the distance to which it was possible to move away from the house – 1 km, 10 km, 30 km. Instead of a simple document available to a person of any age and education, this is a real IQ test.

As they joked on the networks, did they sponsor the actions of the manufacturers of paper and ink for the printer?
The announcement announced that you can walk around the city simply with a certificate of residence or with documents where this place of residence is indicated. It reminded me of the May Day demonstrations in the USSR, when it was easy and free to walk around Moscow – but only with a passport.

Unlike the first quarantine, when everything was closed, hairdressers, bookstores, realtors, car services were allowed to work, you can move from apartment to apartment, visit relatives. Residents of nursing homes have received the right to receive guests, because those who are 75 and older have been vaccinated. Now vaccinated those who are over 65, as well as those who are younger, but suffer from concomitant diseases. Those who are over 50 and who, in spite of everything, feel good are in the queue. They will not get the vaccine until the end of April.

In France, resistance to sanitary restrictions
France is trying to speed up the pace of vaccination. As of March 17, 82.6 thousand rubles were vaccinated. people per 1 million inhabitants. The country, for example, has significantly overtaken Russia (38.3 thousand people on March 20), but is inferior to Israel (596.5 thousand), Great Britain (395 thousand) and the United States (237 thousand). There is a lot of talk in France about Israel, which paid much more expensive than European countries for vaccines, but in the end proved the correctness of the old proverb “stingy pays”. So far, the authorities are paying for their choice by lowering their ratings. An Ifop poll conducted for the Journal du Dimanche opinion showed Emmanuel Macron’s control by 4 points to 37%. Only a third of those surveyed believe that the government is able to cope with the epidemic.

The government is reminded of the rumbling and contradictory instructions that have not stopped since the beginning of the epidemic. Refusal of masks, which have now become mandatory. Lack of tests, of which there are even too many now.

Why was it, many ask, passively spend hundreds of billions on helping enterprises, instead of investing at least a part of these astronomical sums in expanding the production of vaccines, purchasing them on the free market, and acquiring licenses?
If, as President Macron mentioned before the first quarantine, this is a “war”, then why not use military means, involve the army and army doctors, deploy field hospitals and start mass vaccination.

The first demonstration against new tightening of the regime took place in Marseille. And what is symbolic – in the form of a carnival. Canceled a year ago, on Sunday, on the initiative of the left, it gathered about 6.5 thousand people, mainly young people from three city blocks. Those gathered tried to spend the winter, if possible, together with the epidemic. But both the one and the other rest against and do not go away.
