On November 16, the EU countries were unable to approve the draft EU budget for 2021-2027, which provided for additional costs to restore economic activity amid the pandemic.
According to Agence France-Presse, Hungary and Poland vetoed the adoption of the draft EU budget, since the document included obligations to comply with the principles of the rule of law.
“We do not agree that budget decisions are linked to the rule of law in its current form,” a government spokesman in Budapest said on Twitter, quoted by DW.
